Introduction

One Floral Group is a wholesale flower producer that provides tailored floral solutions to retail customers throughout North America and is one of the fastest growing producers of floral products. Our business has over four million square feet of growing and production space in more than six facilities in three different climate zones. We have the ability to grow and build a variety of products, including potted plants and planters, outdoor lawn and garden plants, and vegetable propagation in the best conditions.

The company is seeking to hire Agricultural Scientists for our Gaffney, South Carolina facility. Reporting to the Facility Manager, this position will be responsible for all aspects of the growing of quality crops. The Agricultural Scientists will lead a growing team to efficiently manage all growing conditions and quality control of product according to product specs and customer standards. This position is responsible for organizing and assigning daily tasks by priority, ensuring efficiency and timely completion. This position must have constant communication with Planning and Production Departments to ensure execution of Production plan. Continuous and proactive communication is vital to the success of the company.

Education and experience required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering
  • Proficient computer skills, especially Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent communication and follow through skills
  • Detail oriented and extremely organized
  • Proven analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, showing initiative and good judgement
  • Ability to adapt in a quick and positive manner
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks and requests
  • Flexibility with schedule
  • English communication
  • Ability to relocate to South Carolina

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage all growth regulators and pesticide applications.
  • Recognize unsafe conditions and practices, and make corrections to prevent injuries and property loss.
  • Monitor daily activities to analyze, evaluate and determine opportunities for improvement in productivity, efficiency and quality. Always look for improvements.
  • Effective team building, provide guidance/support to junior staff members
  • Ensure that all employee questions, suggestions and concerns are addressed in a timely manner
  • Encourage and support an open communication policy with all employees to establish and meet common objectives
  • Openly and honestly communicate with all employees to build trust and effective teamwork as well as encourage employee involvement to achieve shared organizational objectives.
  • Responsible for reviewing growing protocols and best practices to grow crops on specs and standards.
  • Will gather data concerning agricultural performance on the cultivation of and preparation of proprietary grown hydrangeas to create new techniques and procedures for production improved quality and sustainability.
  • Will study composition of soils and climate conditions as they relate to crop growth.
  • Will analyze growing operation and daily activities to determine the benefits of using new technologies and procedures to incorporate in the growing processes.
  • Develop and implement an integrated pest management practice.‍

Health and Safety

  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Recognize unsafe conditions and practices, and make corrections to prevent injuries and property loss.
  • Support by completing safety inspections on the Greenhouse area as well as being involved in incident investigation and inspection programs.‍

Working Conditions

  • Work is normally performed in the Greenhouse or open fields.
  • Some physical effort is required as well as some exposure to physical risk.
  • Constant change in temperature, from Greenhouse to Coolers and Open fields.
  • Extended hours during peak Harvest periods.
  • Weekend rotation and Holidays as required.
